Hi Amy L! I've been reading your blogs for a looong time but this was the first time I clicked to respond (to your one about your puppyhood!) I am so glad I did to see the rest of your website! Before I forget, I have been wanting/not wanting to get a dog for FIVE years -- my son is now 14. I was divorced five years ago and kept thinking it would be too much, but now we're pretty settled in. Wondered what you thought of the timing; I think my son (only child, great kid, a little myopic :) would benefit from parenting something else, as you say, but in five years the pup will be all mine to care for! Would love your comment back! I was one of the original GNMParents blogger, but took a "sabbatical" to write a book which came out this May. Ginger, I'm so glad you took the time to comment! Yes if it were me I'd get the puppy for him. If you do the work to train it well the first year, then it gets much easier from there. (Says the blogger who has a 3 month old puppy for the first time in her life.) Seriously though, by the time it's 5 years old, you should have a great companion. Thanks for the compliments, you've got me blushing. I'd love to know what your book is!
